North Sea cod certified as sustainable

As has been widely reported on the BBC and elsewhere today, the Scottish Fisheries Sustainable Accreditation Group (SFSAG) North Sea cod fishery has been assessed and certified against the MSC Fisheries Standard for sustainable fishing and has been found to meet the criteria for a well-managed and sustainable fishery. As the Conformity Assessment Body (CAB) and certifier of this fishery, ME Certification Limited would like to congratulate SFSAG and acknowledge the considerable effort by industry, processors and NGOs to bring the cod stock back to sustainable levels.

Veolia and Peterson facility at Great Yarmouth receives the first offshore structure for decommissioning

Veolia and Peterson have accepted the first offshore structure into their Great Yarmouth decommissioning facility. The Shell Leman BH platform accommodation block, arrived into the harbour on the 11th of July. The 50m-high steel jacket structure that supported the topside is due to follow later in July. The topside structure, which was previously used as living quarters for personnel working on the Leman BT and Leman BK platforms, has now come to its new home to be recycled.

Control Union and NIOZ start spin-out for ballast water testing

Control Union and NIOZ have joined forces to establish a spin-out company to perform ballast water testing activities for the certification of ballast water treatment systems (BWTS). Control Union Water B.V., with her laboratories in ’t Horntje at Texel, is the commercial successor of the ballast water test activities as these were developed and performed by NIOZ since 2004.
