Crane Operator

 Team Leader

 Job function/Scope:

Responsible for operating crane(s) in accordance with manufacturers operating procedures and Peterson (United Kingdom) Ltd safety policy and procedures.

Performing the loading and unloading of trailers, containers or other base operative duties as directed by line supervisor.  Ensure safe positioning of people, loading / unloading duties conducted. To perform forklift operator duties (where applicable) in line with specified training and competency measures.  Ensuring both service delivery and team targets are met in accordance with customer or company requirements.

Roles & responsibilities:

  • Ensure safe-working practices at all times.
  • Ensure positioning of people is considered at all stages during lifting operations.
  • Participate in toolbox talks - ensuring all relevant personnel are fully aware of the job task prior to commencement of work.
  • Empowered to "stop the job" if an action is considered unsafe and report to line supervisor.
  • Loading / Discharging Vessels / Trailers / Containers:
  • Comply with the procedures regarding the loading and unloading
  • Ensure effective communications with Quayside Team Leader and Operations Controllers, Operations Manager and Supervisors as and when required.
  • Complete load out lists and discharge lists with weights / times as required.
  • Conduct final visual inspection of cargo prior to loading ensuring compliance with UKOOA Guidelines.

Qualifications and experience

 

  • Crane Operator License in accordance with legislative requirements
  • Previous knowledge & experience of cargo operations, loading / unloading of vessels
  • Ability to manage changing priorities
  • Knowledge of vessel mooring operations
  • Forklift Truck license and Banksman slinger training necessary
